This choice isn't a story book, but it's MAGNIFICENT. Standing an impressive 46cm tall - 'standing' is the right word because this book begs to be displayed - this is a book for everyone, packed to the rafters with beasts strange and familiar which are divided into imaginative categories like 'In the trees', 'In the Seas' or 'Spots and Stripes'. Ever wondered what a Cuscus was? It's in here, beautifully illustrated by Joelle Jolivet in a bold woodcut style. My daughter stared in rapture at the 'Black and White' pages when she was only weeks old; my zoo-ologically encyclopedic step-father in law found a fish he'd never heard of, asking 'is it real?' (details are given in the index for the curious-minded). It sounds cliched, but this is the perfect volume to explore together (rainy afternoon optional). I found this in the Salts Mill bookshop last year and snapped it up - only £12.99 full price - I've bought several as gifts and they've gone down a storm.
