Postcard Project: Bloomfield to Rolfe #6,7,8, 9 &10!

...although to be fair I think I have lost track and quite possibly missed a few. Still, Bloomers doesn't disappoint in the quantity stakes (or quality-of course!) but then - she was in the US of A and what they don't know about quantity you could write on the back of a postcard. Oh......er...

Holly's Houses in Tatler

We are delighted to have been featured in quite a few mags and supplements this month and next in the run up to the festive season - should hopefully keep us busy! It's always a lovely moment flicking through a publication to find a product you've designed looking all shiny and nice next to lots of other lovely gifts - and this month's feature for our Holly's Houses custom house stamps in Tatler is no exception. It's also a marvellous excuse to treat oneself to a browse of luxury mag with a picture of the dashing HRH on the front...(do I sound a bit like Rachel Johnson?!)

Rolfe: Save the Date stamp show off

OK, ok, no earbashing about exploiting my forthcoming nuptials for commercial gain please! Today I wanted to share my Save The Date cards which were made with what else but a stamp - who knew??

I used one of my favourite techniques when it comes to stamping - painting over the top in inks - here a bright flash of hot pink merges with a sweep of tropical sea blue watercolour to almost iridescent effect!

Obviously we here at B&R can help you with any custom made stamp requirements you might have for your Big Day - or any other equally important days! We've been doing our wedding stamps (featuring a drawing of the venue plus names/dates) via Holly's Houses for a couple of years now but have also done loads of bespoke designs too. Watch this space for the initials stamps we are working on as we speak!

I ordered all my beautifully coloured stationery from Bureau Direct who have a great choice of colours and sizes and import from Switzerland.

P.S - don't you just love it when overseas stamps go so well with your colour scheme?(#weddingoverload)

Rolfe: A little bit of life drawing...

...Just leading on from Bloomfield's post on her life drawing a couple of months ago here's a couple of efforts from me. Jen and I spent many winter nights in Leeds in the comfort of an institutional classroom, a fan heater and a naked person in variety of silly poses. It's something we still do to this day, albeit with years inbetween sessions and sadly 400 miles between us.

Recently, I've been introduced to sessions at the rather illustrious sounding Art Workers Guild in Bloomsbury. The environment is inspiring and just a little intimidating with the crimson walls of the 'work room' swathed from floor to ceiling with portraits of old guild members - with hilarious expressions veering from haughty to dumbfounded, and a variety of moustaches to rival even the trendiest Dalston nightspot. There's wine too, so that's nice.

A month or so ago I sat with some of my lovely co-workers, a glass of red balanced on the corner of our resplendant chairs drawing a woman with wonderful retro hair trussed up in pseudo-bondage gear. What else would you be doing on a Wednesday evening?

It took a little while to get the eye in again but overall I wasn't displeased with these attempts. I'm a big fan of a 'wash' at the moment hence the last piece, on the fabulously thick Canford paper in the homemade sketchbook Bloomfield made me, was a pleasing sensation of washed brush stroke sinking quickly into the ground.

Bloomfield & Rolfe: ...do you remember the first time?

Amidst a chaos (organised and very stylish chaos admittedly) of stamps, ink pads, sketch pads, cameras, pens, pencils, paintbrushes, pattern books, triple chocolate biscuits and a roaming cat, Bloomfield & Rolfe officially kicked off in style last weekend at an undisclosed Leeds location. We held our first AGM in bright and bonny beautiful West Yorkshire at the home of partner Jenny Bloomfield. 'Rolfe' (fellower B&R-er Holly-Anne Rolfe) actually managed to escape from The Smoke 'dan Saff' to meet the lovely Bloomfield face to face to chat web design, bookplates, line drawings, biographies, back gardens and Armando Iannucci.

Staggering though it might be for the North of England check out how sunny it is!

A hard day's work was amply rewarded with a glass of wine on 'the deck' in the last of the evening rays. Let the Domino's pizza commence!
